Romanian directors Michaël and Joël Florescu borrowed a page from Abbas Kiarostami and other Iranian neo-realists for So Bright is the View. They shot in long takes, with little movement but often much conversation within each frame. The protagonist, Estera, is a young Jewish woman from Bucharest at a dead end in a country with few opportunities. Given the choice of emigrating to America or Israel, she finds that both seem overrated destinations as promised lands go.
