Working with an international cast, Norwegian director Mona Fastvold crafts a masterfully low-key psycho-sexual thriller in her debut feature. Sleepwalker’s protagonist, Kaia, is rehabbing her father’s Bauhaus villa with her boyfriend when their idyll is interrupted by the arrival of her estranged sister and her arrogant fiancé. Details are gradually accumulated visually as well as through dialogue. The surfacing of secrets and lies recalls Ingmar Bergman. The Sleepwalker is set in the U.S. and filmed in English.
