Thunder Road (Arthur Ripley, 1958) - Trailer / Youtube
Robert Mitchum was thoroughly invested in Thunder Road (1958), out on a DVD-Blu-ray set. He wrote the story and co-wrote the theme song as well as playing the protagonist, a moonshine “transporter.” Unflappable, with a cigarette dangling from his mouth, Mitchum races around the two-lane back roads of the country in a souped-up car, outracing all comers. He’s eventually squeezed between the ruthlessly stalwart Feds and a strangely effete Mob of big city gangsters.
