Nope. First off, enough with the Edgar Wright deification. He has made one really good film and a bunch of close but no cigars. There were a number of visually arresting sequences in this film and I was happily surprised by Peyton Reed. Not every director has to piss all over the film and make it his for the work to be interesting. Second, Rudd's character was as least as compelling and fully formed as Pratt's was in Guardians, so the idea that he is unimportant is nonsense. Evangeline Lilly was great, but the tension between her and Rudd was what made her character interesting. Not everything has to resolve as politically correct for the film to be good. It's not hard to imagine a 70-ish man like Pym being overly paternalistic and protective. Finally--Michael Pena? Jesus he was one of the best parts of an amusing and competently made summer entertainment. It wasn't genius but it deserves more credit than it's being given here.
