Catholics and recovering catholics simply love laughing at people dressed like nuns. It’s undeniable. The precise reasons for this are a bit lost for those of us who hasn’t been exposed to them. Few have managed to make money off the comedy inherent in the habit like Dan Goggin, whose musical comedy Nunsense has prompted no fewer than SIX sequels including Nunsense II: The Second Coming, Nunsense Jamboree and Meshugga-Nuns. OF course, like so many other pop theatrical comedies, Goggin’s nuns had a Christmas show, which finds its way to the Waukesha Civic Theatre courtesy of a staging produced and directed by Karin Cunningham. The show is set-up as a Christmas TV special on public access cable in Hoboken hosted by singing and dancing nuns. Kinda weird, but it should appeal to quite a few people. You know who you are . . .
Karin Cunningham’s staging of Dan Goggin’s Nuncrackers runs December 21st – 23rd at the Waukesha Civic Theatre. For ticket reservations, call 262-547-0708 or visit Waukesha Civic online.
