Anyone can decide that they want to put together a production at the Marcus Center. All you need is a huge production with massive sets and costuming and probably quite a lot of money. It takes remarkable vision and ingenuity to decide to perform on the roof of the Marcus Center, though. That’s exactly what Dasha Kelly is doing early this coming August with Crimson Summer.
When you finish a book you want to shout it from a rooftop. Dasha Kelly is being a bit more quiet about it. She’s doing a reading from her new book, Almost Crimson, “on the roof” of the Marcus Center. (Actually that’s Fitch Gardens right next door.) The exclusive “rooftop” premiere of her book will take place on Aug. 4 starting at 7 p.m. at Fitch Gardens in the Marcus Center. Copies of the book and artwork will be available. It’s a novel. What’s it about? I found this description on the Amazon.com entry: “From a young age CeCe copes with her mother's crippling depression, their severe poverty, an absentee father, and her own insecurities.” Sounds like interesting, dramatic stuff from a Milwaukee icon. For ticket reservations to her reading, visit the Marcus Center online.
