Sometimes longevity has a way of evening things out. Hundreds of years begin to share the same space in popular consciousness as events fade into the past. It is entirely possible that there may be a future where the kids who will be performing West Side Story will think of it as being roughly as old as the Shakespearian drama that it inspired it. That future comes one step closer to happening as Pius XI high school performs West Side Story this coming weekend. The classic musical finds its way to yet another high school stage this Spring.
Pius XI has excellent funding for a high school production. It may not have the seamless stylishness of a Broadway production, but there’s little doubt that Pius XI’s West Side Story will be every bit as flashy and energetic a touring Broadway production that costs considerably more to attend.
Pius XI High School’s production of West Side Story runs one weekend only April 23-25 at the Wendy Joy Lindsey Theater. For ticket reservations, visit piuspac.org.
