Some people cling to their glory days as high school quarterbacks. Others earn their bread as scholars of ancient civilizations. There are many ways of living in the past. The Brewtown Rumble caters to a special subclass of these antique fetishists. In addition to a classic motorcycle show, Milwaukee’s new vintage moto fest features live music, a pin-up girl contest and vendors of food and moto-related accessories.
Works of art though they are, the motorcycles aren’t regarded by Brewtown Rumble as mere art objects. These classic bikes aren’t kept behind museum glass—their owners have yet to retire them from commission. “Milwaukee has a strong motorcycle culture full of people who maintain and ride vintage and classic bikes,” says Kevin Frank, organizer of the Brewtown Rumble. “The Rumble is about keeping these bikes running, not just how they look. As the saying goes: Ride ’em, don’t hide ’em.”
The Brewtown Rumble will be held Sunday, May 17, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on the streets of the Historic Pabst Brewery (Ninth Street and Juneau Ave.).

Vulture Space is a nonprofit bicycle shop with all the supplies and expertise that one needs to care for one’s wheels. So sincere is the volunteer-run organization’s love of the life of biking that its services are offered free of charge. On Friday, May 15, from 5-9 p.m., Vulture Space is holding its annual fundraising event at the newly opened Fyxation Bicycle Company. Original bicycle-themed art will be auctioned, predesigned tattoos will be offered and the world’s largest inner tube ball will be on hand. A Bicycle Benefits sticker gets you admission for only $5 and can be purchased at Vulture Space or at the door.

ArtWalk Celebration

The movement to buy locally grown food is nothing new. The movement to buy locally made art is less familiar. The Downtown West Bend Association’s annual ArtWalk Celebration draws attention to a thriving local art scene by offering free gallery admissions, live music and a sneak peek at more than 50 beautiful banners by local artists that will hang from light posts in Downtown West Bend through the summer. ArtWalk takes place on Saturday, May 16, from 4-7 p.m. Admission is free.
