Charles Allis’ biennial “Forward 2018: A Survey of Wisconsin Art Now” is a statewide juried exhibition of artwork created by Wisconsin artists. Jurors Faythe Levine (arts and industry program manager and assistant curator at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center) and Ariel Pate (assistant curator of photography at the Milwaukee Art Museum) will be selecting works in a variety of artistic mediums, techniques and styles to represent modern-day Wisconsin art. “Trans-lucent: A Transgender Empowerment Exhibition” Nov. 16-Dec. 13 UW-Milwaukee Union Art Gallery 2200 E. Kenwood Blvd., Room W199
This exhibit showcases artwork created by transgender and nonbinary people, as well as collaborative projects. Students, community members and national artists are featured in this exhibition, which explores themes of self-identity and resilience. “Trans-lucent” opens with a reception on Friday, Nov. 16. Fifth Annual Holiday Art Bazaar and Craft Market Nov. 17 Highland Community School 1706 W. Highland Ave.
Visitors to this arts and crafts fair will enjoy a wide selection of unique art and gifts from local and regional artists. Stroll through the school for handmade toys, clothing, paintings, sculptures, jewelry, ceramics, woodcrafts, apothecary and more. There will also be fresh-baked goods and coffee at the HCS Café, as well as artist demonstrations by Michael Westcott. Incidentally, this art bazaar and craft market is the only one of its kind with student vendors selling their wares to raise money and understand the principles of craft as employment.
