Rather than a series of disconnected cases a la “Law & Order,” the popular British TV crime drama “Broadchurch” is novelistic with ongoing plotlines of murder and animosity. The setting is picture perfect, a small town nestled on a cove in a mossy corner of England, but the cops, criminals, pestering reporters and general public are like people anywhere in this smoothly edited, visually polished program. David Tennant (“Doctor Who”) plays the disheveled detective inspector.
