This article is part of our Milwaukee Film Festival daily preview series. The series is brought to you by Associated Bank. Personal Statement Monday, October 29 @ 6:30 p.m. Times Cinema
A college degree is supposed to be the passport to success—or at least a career. But, as with many aspects of contemporary life, a wide swath of the population is given no operating instructions for the machinery of the American Dream. In Personal Statement, documentarians Julianne Dressner and Edwin Martinez follow a trio of Brooklyn, N.Y., high school seniors who decide not only to master the college application process for themselves but to counsel their classmates on where to go and how to do it. The film sends the message that we can sometimes change the direction of our lives for the better—and those of others around us. Several of the directors and subjects of Personal Statement are scheduled to attend the screening.
Also screened at 1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 1, Avalon Theater.
