David (Brandon Polansky) is a sneering hipster (and aspiring auteur) whose sharp tongue gets him arrested and sentenced to do time with a support group—for autistic people. He has good reason to feel a bit superior to the kindly but banal bunch he encounters, but before long, he begins to fall in love with the relentlessly positive Sarah (Samantha Elisofon) as they stroll those familiar, tree-lined side streets of Manhattan where countless indie film love stories have been set. Writer-director Rachel Israel maintains a droll yet sweet tone as she effectively shuttles a non-professional cast of real autistic adults through their roles in this charming comedy. Jessica Walter (“Arrested Development”) plays David’s mother. (David Luhrssen)
Also screened at 4:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 26, Oriental Theatre Main.
