Say the words “Wisconsin State Fair” and images of freshly-baked cream puffs oozing freshly whipped cream come to mind. Just in case you’re wondering (because we certainly are):
• The Fair began selling Cream Puffs in 1924 and it is the most popular item with all fairgoers
• The Fair makes over 400,000 puffs during its run each year. That includes over 10,000 pounds of flour, 20,000 pounds of eggs and 12,500 gallons of cream
•The Wisconsin Bakers Association operates the Cream Puff Bakery in the Original Cream Puff Pavilion, the Cream Puff Express Window outside the north end of the Original Cream Puff Pavilion, and two conveniently located Cream Puff To-Go stands along Grandstand Avenue.
• Cream puffs can be bought individually, or in three and six packs. And you can get a discount if you plan ahead: 6-pack vouchers are available through July 31 for $18 ($4 savings). Vouchers can be redeemed at any Original Cream Puff location.
What’s the best way to eat a Cream Puff? Any way you like as long you finish it (sharing is allowed and happens all the time).
