Ironically, it took many years for the Milwaukee Burger Company (6421 S 27th St.), a small chain of four locations around Wisconsin, to open up in Milwaukee. It’s a sports bar first and foremost with TVs everywhere you look. Bar food, burgers, beer and multiple kinds of Bloody Marys draw people in. Burgers are hand pattied and often indulgent, like the Defibrillator ($12.99), a double cheeseburger with chicken-fried bacon and their well-known fried cheese curds the size of a golf ball. If you’re feeling really bold, give the Big Milwaukee Challenge ($15.99) a try. If you finish the five-patty burger in 30 minutes, you get a T-shirt and your photo on the wall of fame.
