Ashley’s on 15th and Center has been a haven for takeout grilled meats in tangy sauces since the late 1960s. Three years ago, the son of its founder teamed up with two partners to prepare some of dad’s recipes plus some new offerings with Southern soul food flair, and serve it in a sit-down setting in Walker’s Point. Ashley’s Que (124 W. National Ave.) prepares 8 a.m.-2 p.m. breakfasts and daily side specials such as wedge-cut sweet potato fries. A Saturday and Sunday all-day brunch offers a choice of chicken fried steak or a couple of thick, lean pork chops smothered in hearty brown gravy with thin American fries apart from the standard choice of two other side dishes. Among the latter, the greens, cooked to the mid-point between tender and crisp and with bits of smoked pork, are always a worthwhile accompaniment.
