During our visit, a retired food and beverage manager of Milwaukee’s Pfister Hotel and Chicago’s Ritz-Carlton sitting next to us shared he was a first-time patron and volunteered a review of the breakfast at McBob’s Pub & Grill: “Awesome!” The pub at 4919 W. North Ave. serves homemade meals from Celtic cookbooks. Irish bacon bread is an example: a huge, thick slice of grilled toast with real bacon pieces so popular that owner Christine McRobert added homemade jalapeño cheddar and onion rye to a bread list that also features homemade scones du jour like raspberry chocolate and blueberry lemon. Eggs over corned beef hash are a specialty: fresh, lean meat piled high with cut potatoes circling instead of ground in it. As for omelet fillings, “If we have it, we will make it,” boasts the menu. The generous meals come with a classic pub atmosphere, a fireplace in winter, patio seating in summer, good drinks and great service. Breakfast is Monday-Thursday 8-11 a.m., Friday 8-10:30 a.m., Saturday 8 a.m.-noon and Sunday 8 a.m.-2p.m.
