The Paris-based Ajoyo brings together a gaggle of expatriates from North Africa, West Africa and the Middle East under an Afrobeat groove. The polyrhythms sweep along the solos in a structure musically flexible enough for jazz fans but steady enough to fill dance floors. Vocalist Sarah Elizabeth Charles adds a touch of velvet to the socially conscious lyrics.
