Socalled is a singer-songwriter who refuses to recognize the boundary between pop and hip-hop. He moves between old school and new with ease, and sometimes irony. The Montreal musician assembled some notable guest stars for Peoplewatching, including Funkadelic’s Fred Wesley and jazzman Oliver Jones. Other influences, including klezmer and Indian vocalizing, are playfully employed.
