Voyageurs, the newest effort by Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, brings some Cajun spice into listeners’ lives. With songs that cross multiple genres—rock, the blues, country—there is bound to be a song that appeals to everyone. The songs are sung in a mix of English and Creole. The vocals blend in nicely with the powerful instruments; however, sometimes they can be a bit muted. There are some long jam sessions in songs such as “Boozoo’s Blues,” but they only add to the effort. Overall, the album is solid and a nice introduction for those who aren’t familiar with Cajun music.
