Longtime Milwaukee Journal and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporter and critic Douglas Armstrong has left newspapers behind to pursue fiction writing full time. His debut novel is Even Sunflowers Cast Shadows, which follows four sometimes tumultuous years in the life of a plucky girl growing up in 1920s Kansas. Tonight he reads from the novel, which he loosely based on stories his mother told him about her childhood.
