Gabriele Münter was young, rich and restless, traveling widely at the turn of the 20th century and living unconventionally. She was drawn to painting and fell into intense relations with her art tutor, the then little-known Wassily Kandinsky. Although Milwaukee author Mary Basson titled her novel Saving Kandinsky, Münter is the more central character in the beautifully written prose, based closely on known facts. Emotions are closely observed, as are the creative sparks that flew in circles of artists who would leave their mark on the young century.
