I must admit that I have only seen "A Midsummer Night’s Dream" twice and feel a bit intimidated by someone who has seen it four times this year alone; however, I am compelled to respond to this review. I was impressed with the actors ability to convey the meaning of Shakespeare's oft difficult language. Unfortunately, I am a bit confused by Mr. Bickerstaff's comments regarding the play-within-a-play. Certainly, last night's audience reaction would take serious issue with his opinion. Of course, the characters played their parts over the top. They are after all, mere tradesmen trying to be actors. The roles require that the tradesmen "reach... beyond theyr (sic) capabilities." So, it appears they were successful in conveying it. The laughter, cheers, and clapping by the audience for the group indicated that they got it and loved it.

Just to clarify: I am referring to the mechanicals...

Just to clarify: I am referring to the mechanicals themselves "reaching beyond their abilities," for comic effect. NOT the UWM cast playing them. The UWM cast playing the mechanicals does a good job.

The UWM actors playing the characters as actors playing roles in Pyramus and Thisbe were actually pretty good.
