Sunset Playhouse
There was a point at which creator/author Arthur Conan Doyle had completely lost interest in his most famous character: Sherlock Holmes. He still wanted money from the character, however, so he let playwright William Gillette have a few stabs at him. Honestly, Gillette is probably just as responsible for the character’s popularity and longevity as Doyle is. His original Sherlock Holmes drama had been presented 1,300 times in Gillette’s lifetime.
Both Gillette and Doyle are credited as the basis for modern playwright Steven Dietz’s Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure. The Sunset Playhouse stages a production of Dietz’s adaptation late next month. Carol Dolphin directs the production, which will make its way to the stage this coming September.
Auditions for the production will be held Jul. 20 and 21 at the Playhouse in Elm Grove. For more information, visit the Sunset Playhouse’s auditions page.
