The big view of history can be ugly. To many, the name Edwin Booth sounds vaguely familiar. His brother John Wilkes Booth is better known. Both were actors. One assassinated Abraham Lincoln. The other was...Edwin Booth. Those who know the history of American theater know Edwin as a towering figure in history. He has been called the greatest American actor of the 19th century. He is also considered to be the greatest Hamlet of the 19th century. To everyone else, he was only the brother of the guy who killed Lincoln.
Theater Red sheds some light on Booth’s Macbeth in the premiere of a new drama, The Seeds of Banquo, written and directed by Angela Iannone. Against a backdrop of personal family tragedy and questions of honor, ambition and inheritance, Booth assembles a production of Macbeth which stands-out in the long and winding history of Shakespeare’s classic.
The Seeds of Banquo will run Aug. 13-29 at the Soulstice Theatre. 3770 S. Pennsylvania Ave. in St. Francis. For more information, visit theaterred.com.
