E.B. White was on a train when he dreamed of the story of a boy that behaved like a mouse. He prodded the dreams a little bit and they became stories he would tell to his nieces and nephews. He typed-up the stories of a mouse with human parents and submitted them to a couple of publishers. They weren’t interested. The story of a mouse with human parents could have ended there but it didn’t. Now Stuart Little is a classic children’s book that has been adapted into a series of films, an animated TV series and a series of video games.
Next month, Milwaukee Youth Theatre stages an adaptation of the classic story. “Theatre for children, by children,” will perform Stuart Little May 14 and 15. Brittany Noelle Curran directs. For more information, visit milwaukeeyouththeatre.org.
