Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson plays a helicopter pilot who, along with his ex-wife (Carla Gugino), undertakes a perilous journey following a massive earthquake to rescue his estranged daughter. The plot allows the film to highlight the devastation in California between Los Angeles and San Francisco (oh no, the Golden Gate Bridge!) as well as to demonstrate the heroic side of Johnson’s character.
