Gay guys love their moms. There, I said it. I know this statement will result in a full inbox of messages from mommy-loving Lesbians, Straight guys with a big-ass umbilical chord and Hetero women maintaining “best friend” statuses and pedicure appointments with mommy dearest. Yes, yes. We all love our mothers—but Gay guys take it to a higher level.
There seems to be an extra-special bond between a Gay son and his mother. I don’t know what it is. Perhaps it’s a love of Liza Minnelli. Perhaps it’s an appreciation for nice shoes, a clean house and good food. Or, more likely, perhaps it’s because a mother’s love is the best remedy for easing the emotional strife so many young Gay people struggle with mightily.
Regardless, I hope you raised a glass (or seven) to Mom last Sunday and gave a cheer for all the love she’s dished out—from birth and bedwetting to teenage angst and midlife crisis…and beyond. Thanks to all the Moms out there, for your unconditional love whenever it’s needed!
Dear Ruthie,
My friends make fun of me because I like big guys. They call me a chubby chaser and make fun of my boyfriend’s weight. This keeps pissing me off. It’s so fucking stupid that we’re fighting about the sort of guys I like. How can I make them stop?
—The Bigger the Better
Dear Mr. Big,
Get over it. If your friends’ ribbing is bugging you, tell them to cool it. If they don’t, find some new friends. If their jokes are more cruel than fun, find some new friends. If they’re causing more anger than enjoyment, find some new friends. Then, curl up with your chubby hubby and have a wonderful life with the person who matters most!
