Nowadays Toronto can boast a jazz scene as vibrant as Chicago’s. More proof: The Tiki Collective, which brings together 16 vocalists and a flock of players for a set of recordings that draw on the ’50s-’60s tiki bar exotica associated with Arthur Lyman. The tropical sheen merges well with the album’s subtly emotive voices and sophisticated choice of material. Included on Muse is an ethereal take on Duke Ellington’s “Harlem Nocturne,” a noirish version of Fleetwood Mac’s “Hypnotized” and a breathy half-samba spin on Blue Oyster Cult’s “(Don’t Fear) the Reaper.”
