Granville is the place to be for true blues and jazz on the weekend of June 23-24. From 1-9 p.m. local and regional blues and jazz artists will perform under the big tent behind the Olive Garden at 8645 W. Brown Deer Rd. The perfect combination to kick off the first real weekend of summer in Milwaukee is blues, jazz and great food.
Both Saturday and Sunday there will be music under the tent with plenty of space for those who can’t sit still and want to dance to the beat. The lineup for Saturday kicks off with Joe Jordan at 1 p.m., Tonight Only at 3:30 and NuBlu at 6. Sunday’s lineup is NuBlu at 1 p.m., Joe Jordan at 3:30 and Altered Five Blues Band at 6. There will be food trucks and cocktails under the tent. There will be seating and tables under the tent, but fest goers are encouraged to bring a chair because seating is limited.
This is the second year of the festival, which expanded to the full weekend this year. “We are kicking off the summer festival season and attempting to bring a festival that celebrates the great American tradition of blues and jazz to Milwaukee,” said Mary Hoehne, executive director of the Granville Business Improvement District. “Hopefully this festival will grow and become a regional attraction. Granville is the perfect venue for this event because the Granville area is home to every ethnic group and is a true melting pot; just like the blues and jazz. We have heart and soul and our music genre for our festival is synonymous with heart and soul.”
The Blues & Jazz Fest celebrates the ongoing revitalization and energy of the Granville area. The festival is sponsored by the Granville Business Improvement District, whose objective is to market, promote, beautify, secure and lead economic development in Granville. The location on Brown Deer Road provides plenty of parking and visibility to the thousands who travel through Granville.
