In the shadow of Independence Day, the Lake Country Playhouse will stage Stephen Sondheim’s musical about people who have planned to kill various presidents of the United States. History is simplified and oversimplified in a musical that is nonetheless dark and reasonably complex. It’s kind of a strange choice for Sondheim, but this WAS a guy who thought Sweeney Todd might be a fun musical.
In recent memory, there was a production of the musical staged by the Milwaukee Rep. This summer will offer an opportunity for audiences to see the show in a smaller town just east of Oconomowoc as the Lake Country Playhouse stages the show in Hartland.
The Lake Country Playhouse’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s Assassins runs Jul. 9 - 26 at the playhouse on 221 E. Capitol Dr. in Hartland. For more information, visit the Lake Country Playhouse online.
