The modern birthing suite looks very little like I pictured it as a kid. From what I’d seen on television in the early 1980s, I had assumed that babies were born in the same rooms used for every other kind of operation. Both my daughters were born in distinctly different hospitals and both had really nice facilities. Evidently modern parents-to-be have come to expect comfortable privacy where the joys of birth can be shared with loved ones and no other distractions.
Local Writer/Director/Producer Greg North has written a comedy about modern childbirth that makes its way to the stage in Burlington this coming weekend. Delivery tells a story of what happens when an overcrowded hospital forces two couples together to give birth in the same room. Two different pairs of people find themselves bring new life into a room. There’s a lot of potential here. Childbirth is stressful enough. When two drastically different couples are forced to deal with that stress together, the ensuing comedy can’t help but be entertaining.
Greg North’s Delivery runs April 10-19 with the Haylofters of Burlington. For tickets and further information, visit thehaylofters.com.
