Pop music icon Jim Morrison had passed away in Paris in 1971. Found among his belongings were a set of recordings of poetry, spoken words and music made by Morrison largely in Los Angeles in 1969. Inspired by these “lost tapes,” playwright Jay Jeff Jones wrote The Lizard King, a stage drama drawing from the life of a pop music legend in his last days. The play was originally produced in 1982. It had been staged a couple of times since then. This coming September, KACM Theatrical Productions stages an all-new version of the drama as re-worked by the playwright for the staging.
The Midwest Premiere of the play will be directed by Posy Knight. Tom Welcenbach serves as line producer and stage manager. The Lizard King runs at the Arcade Theatre in the Underground Collaborative (161 W. Wisconsin Ave.) Sept. 15-27. For more information, click here.
