In Tandem Theatre will be hosting a 2015-2016 season preview event this coming Monday, Jun. 29. It’s a free event featuring sneak peeks at snippets from upcoming shows on the season. Perhaps one of the most promising bits on the coming season is Lamps for My Family, in which local playwright Michael Neville pays homage to his Irish heritage. The play involves a man returning to his family home to have conversations with members of his family. The fact that all of them happen to be deceased is what makes it particularly interesting beyond the traditional family comedy angle. I’m also looking forward to Any Given Monday in October. It’s a really sharp comedy that I saw a recent production of in the Arcade Theatre downtown. Bruce Graham’s dark, dramatic comedy has a man home alone watching Monday night football when a friend pops by with some news. It’s a fun show that worked well in an intimate studio theatre, which is exactly the type of stage that In Tandem calls home.
The two plays mentioned above join Mondy Carter’s brand new Dickensian mutation A Twisted Carol and Anne Croswell’s Wilde musical Ernest in Love. Any single season with TWO plays by local playwrights is worth celebrating in advance. In Tandem Theatre’s Sneak Peek and Open House takes place on Monday, Jun. 29. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. Snippets from the season will be performed at 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. It all takes place at In Tandem's Tenth Street Theatre on 628 N. Tenth St. For more information, visit In Tandem online.
