Rated R
Seen through a teenage girl’s computer screen, Unfriended views a group of online chat-room friends who are haunted after their dead friend messages the group to declare they must pay for a shameful video posted online that ultimately provoked her suicide. A new twist on the found-footage device, the film’s computer-screen framing unfolds in real time and feels surprisingly natural. The issues of teen bullying, along with unrelenting pressures exerted on young people by social media, lend import to this horror flick.
