They say know your audience. Chill on the Hill returned to the Humboldt Park Band Chalet and the Hungry Williams took that philosophy to heart Tuesday night, opening their performance with the blast of Hank Ballard’s “Let's Go, Let's Go, Let's Go,” as vocalist Kelli Gonzalez beckoned “there’s a thrill on the hill.”
The band’s brand of horn-driven New Orleans-style R&B filled the area at the front of the stage with dancers from the gitgo, while a full hillside of listeners enjoyed music in a neighborhood setting after way too long.
“This is your drummer speaking,” bandleader John Carr announced throughout the performance welcoming fans back and offering spotlight songs for the musicians, including special guest saxophonist Juli Wood. Litmus Vinyl opened the evening with a sweaty set of high energy tunes.
Chill on the Hill takes place every Tuesday through September 14. You can view the full schedule here.
