“This is all about the sound of today and the breadth and depth of the American choral scene,” says Music Director Richard Hynson about the upcoming Bel Canto Chorus concert, “Modern American Choral Masters.” A dozen modern choral works are on the program. Highlights include such variegated pieces as “Cloudburst” and “Leonardo Dreams of his Flying Machine” by Grammy-winner Eric Whitacre; “My Flight for Heaven” by DePere resident Blake R. Henson; Duke Ellington’s jazz standard “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore”; and the folk-inspired “The Road Home,” described by its composer, Stephen Paulus, as “coming home after being lost or wandering.” Pop music lovers will surely appreciate choral arrangements of songs by Toto, Billy Joel and Ben E. King. For tickets, call 414-481-8801 or visit belcanto.org.
