What is it about cooking food over an open fire that makes everything so gosh darn tasty? Here are some tried-and-true favorites with a few spins to sample on your next camping outing.
5. Baked Beans
Something about getting the legumes bubbling in a pot over flames makes them so much more special.
4. Veggie Kebobs
Make a skewer of cherry tomato, mushroom, red onion, zucchini and anything else that strikes your fancy. Lightly brush with extra virgin olive oil to really bring out the natural flavors of this healthy fare.
3. Corn on the Cob
It is always worth the wait for this grilled treat. Slather with butter, doctor it with salt, pepper or cayenne and take a big bite.
2. Marshmallows
S'mores, anyone? For an extra decadent dessert sandwich, spread some peanut butter on the graham crackers, or melt some peanut butter cups rather than plain chocolate to go on yours.
1. Chorizo Sausage
Oh, I know hot dogs or brats can't be beat. But wait ’till you try the succulent juices that ooze from one of these babies when heated up. Their spices lend themselves readily to the flavor of a campfire.
