Playwright Malaina Moore majors in theater arts at Marquette University.
White Privilege
Hearing about racial issues on the news nearly every day is one thing, but what happens when those very same issues come face-to-face with you? Marquette theater arts student Malaina Moore invites you to join the nationwide conversation and consider how interactions with students, teachers, parents, friends and even total strangers are often influenced by race and how the simple factor of a person’s skin color can lead to very different ways of experiencing the world.
Moore was profiled in the Shepherd Express earlier this year in a Spring Arts Guide feature that identified six successful artists who emerged from Milwaukee’s many arts education programs and who work in various artistic media. At 20, she was the youngest such person we discussed. Moore was a Rufus King High School student when she discovered Milwaukee Chamber Theatre’s Young Playwrights Festival; White Privilege is her newest play.

The Jealous Revolver
Cabaret Milwaukee, those purveyors of old-time radio days murder and mayhem, embark upon a new multi-part mystery with their latest work, The Jealous Revolver, Episode 1. The production kicks off the ensemble’s fourth season with, as they describe it, “a criminally noir trip back to 1932 [and a] Prohibition Era sleazy speakeasy on the seedy side of Milwaukee, with all the gangsters, dames, bullets and vengeance you can handle in a trilogy.” Meanwhile, Richard Howling, the host of the show, and the rest of the Howling Radio Hour cast, will “serenade and entertain” attendees just as if they’d been transported back to the “good” ol’ days.
Aug. 31-Sept. 14 at the Astor Bar in the historical Astor Hotel, 924 E. Juneau Ave. For tickets, visit brownpapertickets.com/event/3515165.
Muskie Love
“Back by popular demand” is often not the case, but it certainly does apply to Northern Sky Theater’s 2018 production of Paul Libman and Dave Hudson’s Muskie Love. Indeed, this is the fifth season since 2004 in which the light-hearted fish tale has appeared on the Door County theatre company’s roster. A contemporary take on William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, Muskie Love features rival Northern Wisconsin fishing guides, both single and happy that way, who become ensnared in the schemes of their well-meaning friends and families bent on hooking them—to each other.
Aug. 31-Oct. 20 in Door Community Auditorium, 3926 Highway 42, Fish Creek. For tickets, call 920-854-6117 or visit northernskytheater.com.
Durst Case Scenario: Midterm Madness

He received seven consecutive nominations for the American Comedy Awards Stand Up Comedian of the Year. His new show describes the strange new world where every day without a nuclear explosion somewhere on planet Earth is something of a major victory for humankind.
