Following the timeline on Thoroughly Modern Millie can get a bit confusing. It’s a late ’60s version of the early ’20s. A young protagonist looks to become a stenographer, meet the man of her dreams and marry him. Evidently in the late ’60s campy musical interpretation of the early ’20s, this was a ‘thoroughly modern,’ goal. So this is the late ’60s laughing at the early ’20s. This summer the early 21st century may well be laughing at the late ’60s laughing at the early ’20s as Sunset Playhouse brings Thoroughly Modern Millie to the stage in Elm Grove. The production is directed by the talented Michael Pocaro with music direction by Mark Mrozek and Choreography by Amanda Marquardt.
The production runs July 17-Aug. 9. Auditions will be held late next month on May 27 and 28 starting at 7 p.m. For further information, visit sunsetplayhouse.com.
