It can be kind of difficult to bypass the general public’s complacency on art. We’re living in a world where people can carry around just about any form of art in their pockets. Actually going out to the theatre to see something live would be nice, but who has the time? Give people a way to integrate the arts into their lives and people will start to realize what they might be missing.
First Stage and Danceworks have worked out a rather clever promotional synthesis for next month with something called First Class. Parents can bring their kids K5 and older to sample classes with First Stage. First Stage is a remarkably innovative children’s training program. Parents might not be certain that their kids would necessarily be interested in it, though. Here First Stage is offering a free...first class. They can try it out and see if it’s something they would be interested in.
First Class isn’t just for kids, though. While the kids are off exploring children’s theatre with First Stage, parents can take a trial class with Danceworks. It’s not a necessary part of the event, but anyone who has been curious about studying dance has the same kind of free trial that the kids are getting.
After class, there will be a presentation and a Q&A session led by First Stage Teaching Artists.
Of course, if things go quite well for parents and/or kids, there will be onsite registration and discounts for First Stage’s Summer Academy.
First Class with First Stage and Danceworks will take place on April 12 at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center on 325 W. Walnut St. 45-minute classes start at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. It’s a free event, but reservations are recommended. For more information, visit firststage.org.
