Neil Simon’s 1968 comedy Plaza Suite is a fun, little three-course sitcom. Three different shorts take place in Suite 719 of New York’s Plaza Hotel. A wedded couple revisits what had been their honeymoon suite. A movie producer meets with an old flame. A married couple stays in the suite on their daughter’s wedding day.
The Sunset Playhouse brings the old comedy to the stage in Elm Grove in a production with a really nice cast. Included onstage are Matt Zembrowski (who has made a number of clever comic appearances on local stages) and Lori Nappe (who did an outstanding job in Sunset’s recent production of The 39 Steps). The two of them should be particular fun in the second act: Visitor from Hollywood. Zembrowski plays the movie producer. Nappe plays the suburban housewife who is his old flame. Offstage, they are engaged to be married. This can’t help but add something fun to the stage dynamic.
Also included on the cast are Glenn Villa, Joan End, Nancy Domres, Tanya Tranberg and Raffaelo Frattura.
The Sunset Playhouse’s production of Plaza Suite runs June 4-21. For ticket reservations and further information, visit sunsetplayhouse.com.
