Through the use of CGI and Paul Walker’s own brothers standing in as doubles, the actor’s fatal accident (occurring off set while making the film) never hampers his derring-do. Jason Statham plays Deckard Shaw, determined to get revenge against the furious crew for killing Deckard’s brother, Owen. Kurt Russell shows up as a mysterious lawman, promising to help Dom (Vin Diesel) get Deckard in exchange for help from Dom’s gang to rescue the kidnapped creator of an all-seeing surveillance program known as God’s Eye. Dwayne Johnson reprises his character who spends much of the film sidelined. In one action sequence the crew parachutes from a plane while each sits behind the wheel of a souped-up car. An inordinately expensive red sports car (one of just seven in the world) flies through an upper-story window of not one but two skyscrapers. At more than two hours long, the film never allows a weak plot to stand in the way of pleasing its action-loving fan base.
