Several years after worldwide calamities bring down civilization in 2060, Mad Max (Tom Hardy), a former highway patrolman, meets Furiosa (Charlize Theron) and the other four women serving as the five wives of a tyrannical leader, Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne). To escape Joe’s desert nation patrolled by the merciless War Boys, Furiosa and her sister wives depend on Max’s fighting skills and desert knowledge. Judging by the story’s sense of urgency and the film’s incredible production values, the 17 years George Miller spent waiting for a greenlight to film the first Mad Max movie in 30 years have not been wasted.
