Beer lovers rejoice: Milwaukee Beer Week starts Saturday, April 18. The weeklong event includes tap takeovers, rare beer tastings, beer dinners and beer sampling at locations all around the city through Saturday, April 25. Organized by Beechwood Distributors in New Berlin, Wis., it’s one of the largest beer events around and features brews from 24 participating breweries.
Events kick off on Saturday with a beer brunch at Steny’s Tavern featuring Southern Tier Beers. Later that day, Sugar Maple joins the festivities with a dual firkin tapping from Summit Brewing Company, and the WI Cheese Mart and Uber Tap Room host a rare beer and cheese pairing night with Milwaukee Brewing Company and 3 Sheeps Brewing Company. Monday, April 20, Hi Hat Garage will be tapping a Goose Island Bourbon County Stout, a limited release imperial stout that has a high ratings for its charred oak and vanilla flavors.
Tap takeovers will occur throughout the week, including Left Hand Brewing at Oscar’s Pub and Grill, Green Flash at Matty’s in New Berlin and 3 Sheeps at Black Sheep, fittingly. Rare beer releases—like Waldos’ 4/20 Ale from Lagunitas that will be tapped at Sugar Maple on Monday, April 20 (of course)—will take place during the week as well. To see the list of events, visit milwaukeebeerweek.com or download the Milwaukee Beer Week app. This year’s passport will be on the app, allowing people to check into various events and get stamps. Participants with the most stamps on their passport will be entered into a drawing for the annual prize package.
Stein & Dine: More Beer and Cheese
The last day of Beer Week coincides with the Third Annual Stein & Dine, the Shepherd Express’ highly touted beer, cheese and sausage festival at the State Fair Park Expo Center on Saturday, April 25 from 2-6 p.m. Again this year there will be some of the finest craft brewers in the state and more cheese and sausage vendors with their wonderful array of samples.
