Holy crap! It’s a three-day weekend! Do you have special plans? You should! Take a look at my social calendar below and choose a few days that are sure to make your Labor Day weekend extra special. Come on out and have some fun with me! Before doing that, however, let’s read a letter from a reader who is thinking about “coming out” this Labor Day in a different way entirely.
Dear Ruthie,
What is the best age to come out as gay to your parents? (Selfie attached.)
Help!
Curious Kevin
Dear Kevin,
Thanks for the pic. You’re a real sweetie pie. To return the favor, I’ve created flyers with your picture and added a caption: “Kevin is stepping out...of the closet!” I have plastered your neighborhood, church, former high school, gas station, McDonalds and all the ATMs in a four-mile radius with them. You’ll never have to think about telling your folks that you like guys because the rest of the neighborhood will tell them for you. You’re welcome.
Of course, there is no target age when it comes clueing in your parents (or anyone, really) about your sexuality. You need to make that decision when it feels right for you, sweetie. Listen to your heart and take that step when doing so feels like the right thing to do. When the time is right, tell them...or simply hand one of them this article right before they head into the john. Your call, sweetie.
