This week on The Disclaimer, WMSE's weekly panel with Ryan Schleicher, Milwaukee Record editor Matt Wild and I, we're trying our best not to be buzzkills about one of last week's most over-hyped stories: the return of Pabst Brewing Co. But is "return" really the right word, since that implies the brewery is returning its primary operations to the city, including the hundreds of jobs it took when it left in 1996? In reality, Pabst's plans only call for a restaurant and a very modest craft brewery, so why did both the local and national media so badly overstate the "return" angle on this story? We chew on that for a while, then look at former Journal Sentinel film and TV critic Duane Dudek’s new gig offering paywalled content for Milwaukee Magazine. Will readers be willing to shell out a very small, very reasonable sum of money to read his new content? Probably not, and that's a bummer. We discuss the publishing industry's failure to sell the public on micropayment systems.
