This week on The Disclaimer, WMSE's weekly culture panel with Ryan Schleicher, Milwaukee Record editor Matt Wild and I, we're looking back at what turned out to be a disappointing year for Summerfest. The festival's attendance feel by nearly 10% from last year, to its lowest level in decades. What happened? In a defensive press release, festival head Don Smiley blamed a number of "external factors," but we wonder if there's more at play. Then, in the wake of high ratings for this year's Women's World Cup, Ryan takes the chance once and for all to dispel the noxious myth that nobody is interested in women's sports. And finally, we take a look at another institution with a nasty habit of dismissing women: country radio.
