While Milwaukee’s mainstream media largely fawns over Scott Walker and his run for the White House, other Wisconsinites are producing contrary messages. Veteran Racine artist Jerry Belland’s brightly hued, hard bound little book, Scott Walker in Hell, is a humorous commentary on the polarization caused by the governor’s radical agenda.
In luridly colored panels with speech balloons, Belland shows Walker in the fiery underworld where a pointy horned Satan tells him: “The bad news, Scotty, is that this place is crawling with liberals.” Walker wants out, especially when poor conditions in Hades cause some of the damned to organize a union. And when hell freezes over, Walker still denies climate change!
Some of the original panels for Scott Walker in Hell are on display as part of an exhibition at Kenosha’s Re: Vision Gallery, “Jerry Belland: A Real Fun Guy,” through July 31.
