As the spring semester winds down, students are busier than ever—and not just with essays, exams and excessive carousing. It is also time for students of the arts to exhibit the ripened fruits of their labors. Here are four such student-centric exhibitions on the horizon.
"Inner Light" displays canvasses from the three seniors poised to graduate from Cardinal Stritch University’s Visual Arts Department. Each body of work displays not only mature technique but also the maturity of the three individuals. Each artist intends the viewer to have a sympathetic response leading her to discover her own “inner light"—the unique qualities that make each of us an individual. For instance, Tacharra Edwards’ work is influenced by her African American roots and her contribution invites viewers to reflect on African Americans’ changing connection with society through the years. The art of Mandy Hughes marries her two long-standing passions—horses and design—into a coherent vision. And Annemaree Ludwig’s photographic portraits are exceptional for their ability to capture the beauty and luminosity of her subjects. "Inner Light" opens in CSU’s Northwestern Mutual Gallery with a reception on May 8 from 5-7 p.m.
UWM’s Department of Film, Video, Animation and New Genres is ranked as one of the twenty best film departments in the world. Their current crop of Kubricks, Coppolas and Kurosawas will present their best short films and videos during the 68th Student Film and Video Festival on May 8 from 7-10 p.m. The festival takes place at UWM’s Union Theatre and is free and open to the public.

Arts + Tech Night @ UWM is like the younger sibling of the Kenilworth Open Studios. The event displays works by students in the Interdisciplinary Arts and Technology program, a collaboration between the Departments of Dance, Art and Design, Music and Film. The broad-minded students use everything from digital prints, electronic sculptures and installations to consider the effect of technology on the ways that we think and create art. Arts + Tech Night takes place on Wednesday, May 13, from 6-9 p.m. at Kenilworth Square East.
