The weather gets warmer and there’s a musical about a big, hungry plant that eats people. For some reason this feels about right. This time around, Little Shop of Horrors will be rendered for the stage by All In Productions. The stage in question will be the classy, modern space of the Next Act Theatre. The show is being directed by the talented Mara McGhee. McGhee has excellent instincts onstage for musical comedy. Those instincts should translate will in the director’s chair for this production. The music director for the production is the refreshingly semi-ubiquitous Colleen Schmitt who might be most commonly known for her work with T.I.M: The Improvised Musical. Local musical theater veteran Carl Miller serves as choreographer for the production. James Carrington plays the nebbishy plant shop owner Seymour. Erica Brown plays plant shop employee Audrey—the namesake of of a certain viciously demanding carnivorous plant.
All In Productions’ staging of Little Shop of Horrors runs through June 11-20 at the Next Act Theatre on 255 S. Water St. For more information, visit allin-mke.com.
